Hello💟!
This was first time doing a process such as using only a ballpoint pen and also my first blog ever! This process was giving me some anxiety issues. I never enjoyed drawing with pens because most of the time you if you make a mistake you can't take it back. I like pencils just go to be safe and go the easy route. I will say that at first I was very cautious with how heavy I held the pen to the paper after some mistakes of pressing down with too much pressure. Overtime I did like the challenge. One thing I just wish is that I could have used a pink pen😅
I would say the most challenging part of this project was showing movement of the water from the bottom of the sea going up to space. At first I had the water lightly shaded to show the marks of waves but then it was too light and my outer space didn't have a relationship with any other section of the drawing besides the mermaids hair. When I made the water darker it put the piece in more perspective to me and became pleasing to my eyes. I was really getting tired of shading and pressing hard with my pen so to see it was coming put pretty nicely I was happy.
My initial thoughts for the overall theme was to incorporate some of my own dreams from over time and things I like. For one this is like a girl's dream world. Roses, petals, oceans, castles, mermaids, pearls, and a beautiful night sky to look at? Which one out of those doesn't a woman appreciate? I love the ocean and astrology I have become fascinated with galaxies and astronomy such as different constellations. Also I don't know a female who claimed they didn't like "The Little Mermaid" or if they never wanted to be a mermaid even become one now if they could. I have always had an interest in mystical things and celestial beauty and beings so this a mix of underwater fantasy world meeting a celestial world. For the hour glass it symbolizes a balance between the two worlds and also gives a metaphor of other things. This article I read spoke the most to me and sums up exactly how i felt about the hour glass.(http://www.sunsigns.org/)
"The curvaceousness of the shape directly references the female and the specific cycles that she experiences in her life. As it is fully developed, the hourglass symbolizes a woman who has gone through the cycle of maiden to mother to crone. This spirit symbol shows that she has both learned and grown."
Indeed I wanted to incorporate all these things without adding so much. For one I'm a Pisces I felt as if I'm the mermaid in which I always wanted to be, I'm delicate, sensitive yet beautiful like a rose even with my fallen petals, overtime I have learned a lot of lessons and grown from them and finally I know I'm a queen, a go-getter and I will build my empire.
